We recently moved just one mile down the road. We live in the country, and at our old place we could rely on 2 bars of signal at best - but it was enough... just. The new place is in a dip however, and our two O2 mobiles (iPhones) were struggling between no service and a very shaky one bar of signal. Calls were impossible, and texts just occasionally might go - it was a nightmare!
Knowing nothing about boosters I researched on the internet and purchased a unit from another supplier, for around £350. Their information on the product wasn't great - and failed to keep me updated on order progress and eventually I cancelled the order.
By chance I came upon mobilesignalbooster. I decided to email before ordering to get some advice, and was pretty much resigned to not bothering with a booster and living with the inconvenience of no mobile signal.
Amazingly I had a return email within 2 hours from MSB. On the basis of the information I'd given them they recommended the Power Max 900-3G XT repeater - it was twice the price of the unit I'd given up on from the other supplier - but I was impressed with the service and ordered it.
Seven days later the unit arrived. The only downside was that there were no instructions - but to be honest I didn't need them.
I decided to do a temporary set-up first to see how things went. On MSB advice I'd stayed with the 900's flat aeriel - I attached the aeriel cable and hung it out of a bedroom window. I put the main unit on the upstairs landing, figuring it was central to the house. Next I attached the aeriel cable to the unit - and then attached the internal antenna - the main unit is clearly marked so plugging stuff in was simple. Finally I attached the mains... and switched on.
Two green power lights came on - one on the receiver side, one on the transmitter side. And nothing else. I checked my phone - no signal. My heart sank. Then, after 20 seconds or so two more lights came on - Red at first, then after a further 20 seconds they turned amber, and after about a minute they turned green.
I checked my phone again... FIVE BARS!!! I couldn't believe it! I switched off the repeater, and the mobile signal dropped out. I switched it back on - it did it's thing for 30 seconds or so - and there was the mobile signal, a full 5 bars. My partners iPhone also showed 5 bars. On top of this the 3G indicator was back.
I made a mobile call, and connected without trouble - so I went for a walk round the house... still fine, so I went down our (quite) long garden - still fine! Having had a few days with the Power Max now I am more than delighted with it. I've checked all round the house and garden, and the lowest signal strength I get (right at the bottom of the garden, around 70 feet from the unit) is three bars - which allows the mobile to work fine. Everywhere else there are either 4 or 5 bars. 3G connectivity is fine - and both iPhones can be used simultaneously with no trouble.
Very occasionally the mobile will drop a call - but no more than it always does - so I have permanently attached the exterior aeriel to the outer wall near the roof line, and run the aeriel cable neatly to the repeater unit.
I am absolutely delighted with the Power Max 900 3G XT - and with the advice and service from MSB.
If, like I was you are sceptical of this technology, and wary of being scammed or sold something less than you're hoping for - don't be. Get some advice from MSB and buy what they advise. Yes you can buy cheaper units, but many are less powerful, and don't support data. And as I found out, some 'suppliers' don't actually deliver any sort of customer service, much less the product you ordered.
Thank you MSB for great advice - and a GREAT product!

Product: GSM 900-3G Mobile Repeater Posted By: Gert

| I have 5 km to the nearest mast and a difficult toppografi, 3G could not be used, GSM only worked outdoors. I have now installed the repeater MB-305 with external antenna below the TV antenna. The operator gave me the positions of the nearest masts, I mounting the antenna with help of a compass direction. Without of other tuning it was just to connect power. Now I have both phones with 3G, it is perfect quality and mobile broadband to about 5 Mbps. |
